In March 1985, Micro-Biotrol, Inc., an independently operated subsidiary of Griffith Laboratories International, Inc. (now known as Griffith Foods International Inc.) opened a facility in Willowbrook, Illinois. The facility provided sterilization services for certain industries, including medical equipment.
In May 1999, Griffith Foods sold its sterilization operations (then known as Griffith Micro Science), including the Willowbrook facility, to Ion Beam Applications, which later became Sterigenics.
Sterigenics has been named as a defendant in lawsuits arising from its operation of the Willowbrook facility. Griffith Foods has also been named as a defendant in many of these same cases, despite not having any connection to sterilization operations for more than 20 years.
While we will not comment on the specifics of these lawsuits, Griffith Foods fully intends to defend its reputation and values as a responsible owner against any claims that allege otherwise.
