Building a Stronger, Smarter Workforce Through Nutrition Education

At Griffith Foods, we’ve always believed in creating a strong learning culture and working to ensure we offer training and development opportunities to help people grow. Our employees are also consumers, and we saw a need for education around the fundamentals of nutrition and its role in diet and health. Through learning, employees can support better nutrition for themselves, our products at Griffith Foods and ultimately those of our customers. As we work towards our 2030 Aspirations and creating a nutritious and sustainable portfolio, nutrition education is a key foundation for our employees.

A Commitment to 100% Nutrition Education

In 2019, team members from R&D worked with external nutritionists to develop a desktop training that covers the basics of nutrition. We set a lofty goal – 100% of our workforce to be trained on nutrition topics by the end of 2025.

This commitment also aligns with our involvement in broader industry efforts, including the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Global Nutrition Report and the Workforce Nutrition Alliance. We’ve shared our progress and learned from peers who are equally committed to improving nutrition education.

Nutrition Dice developed by our team in Asia-Pacific encourage people to eat a range of foods.

Meeting People Where They Are

One of the most important insights guiding our work is simple: our employees are consumers and they’re navigating the same confusing landscape of health and nutrition information as everyone else. They want clarity, not complexity.

Our initial desktop training was created by external dietitians and as our team grew, Griffith Foods dietitians and nutritionists developed new content that was specific for us covering topics like micronutrients and heart health. To support our factory teams, we created short, 3–5‑minute infographic‑based modules that trainers could easily share and translate. We also delivered in‑person sessions in a few regions, recognizing that some learning resonates best face‑to‑face.

The online training was translated into five languages and assigned through our HR software for office employees. The module format allowed people to complete the training at their own pace. Across all formats, the goal has been to provide objective, evidence‑based information without pushing a position or prescribing personal choices.

What We Heard—and How We’re Responding

Feedback has been invaluable in shaping the next phase of our nutrition education strategy. Employees consistently told us that the training helped them improve their personal lifestyle habits and better support their families’ nutrition. Many appreciated having a credible source of information in a world full of conflicting advice.

At the same time, we heard clear opportunities to improve:

  • Make it flexible. Not everyone needs the same depth of information, and not all roles require the same training.
  • Make it simpler. Some found the program too complex and suggested offering different levels.
  • Make it relevant. People want the freedom to engage in a way that fits their needs and interests with culturally relevant examples.

These insights are helping us shape a more modular, personalized approach—one that keeps the credibility and clarity people value while making the experience more intuitive and efficient.

Looking Ahead

Nutrition education isn’t a one‑time initiative; it’s an ongoing commitment to our people’s well‑being. As we work towards our purpose to Blend Care and Creativity to Nourish the World, our focus remains on empowering employees with knowledge they can use—at work, at home, and in their communities.

And with every iteration, we’re building a healthier, more informed workforce—one choice, one module, and one conversation at a time.
