(Alsip, Ill.- June 17, 2024) — Griffith Foods, one of the largest food product development companies in the world, is proud to announce the successful completion of solar panel installation projects at its locations in Atitalaquia and Santa Catarina, Mexico. This significant milestone aligns with the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and achieving its sustainability goals.
In November 2023, Griffith Foods began installing solar panels at both locations, with the Atitalaquia (Hidalgo) facility starting to generate electricity in March 2024 and the Santa Catarina (Nuevo Leon) facility following suit in April 2024.
Today, the Santa Catarina location boasts a 567kWp solar panel system, generating 32% of the plant’s energy requirements. Meanwhile, the Atitalaquia facility’s 633kWp system provides 60% of its energy needs. On an annual basis, the Monterrey system is expected to generate 914,000 kWh and reduce CO2 emissions by 373 tons, while the Atitalaquia system will generate 1,405,000 kWh and reduce emissions by 413 tons.
The Atitalaquia site features an innovative “TRACKERS” system that follows the sun’s movement to maximize energy generation. Both Mexico locations use top-quality Tier 1 solar panels to ensure optimal performance and durability.
Griffith Foods’ commitment to sustainability extends beyond these initial installations, with plans to add 946 more panels in Monterrey and 1,056 more in Atitalaquia in the near future. These projects are a significant step toward the company’s goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, with the two installations already representing a 21% progress towards that target.
